Editorial Policy
¡¡ Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hematopathology, the official
journal of the Japanese Society for Lymphoreticular Tissue Research and
Japanese Dendritic Cells Society, publishes articles describing laboratory
and clinical investigations in hematopathology and related field. Journal
of Clinical and Experimental Hematopathology will consider
papers covering all aspects of hematopoiesis, red cells, lymphocytes,
phagocytes, dendritic cells, immunobiology and pathophysiology of the
hematolymphoid system, hematological malignancies, and transplantation.
Manuscript categories include Original Articles, Case Studies, Short
Communications, and Letters to the Editor written in English. Original
Articles will be accepted for publication with the understanding that
they have not been published or submitted elsewhere, and Reviews
and Commentaries solicited by the Editor-in-Chief may also be published.
For any investigation involving human subjects, informed consent must
be obtained from the subject (s) and/or their guardian (s), and this must
be clearly stated in the paper. Animal experiments should be performed
according to the relevant guidelines for the care and use of laboratory
animals.
Form of Manuscripts
¡¡ Original Articles¡¡¡¡Manuscripts should be typewritten and
double-spaced with wide margins on good quality typing paper. American
spelling is to be used, and all pages must be numbered consecutively starting
with the title page. Arrange manuscripts as follows, with each part beginning
on a new page ©º Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods,
Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, Tables, Figure Legends,
and Figures.
¡¡ The title page must include the title, each author¡Çs name, the institution
where the study was conducted, and a running title of less than 40 letters
including spaces. All authors should be listed by full name. The affiliation
of each author should be specified. The corresponding author¡Çs complete
address should be given, including telephone and fax numbers and, if possible,
an e-mail address. The names of Japanese authors should appear in both
English and Japanese. The second page should contain an abstract of no
more than 200 words and a list of no more than five unabbreviated key
words. The abstract must specify the objective of the study, briefly describe
the methods used, and state the results and conclusions reached. Abbreviations,
footnotes, and references should not appear in this section. The introduction
begins on page 3.
¡¡ Short Communications¡¡¡¡Papers representing concise but
definitive findings will be considered as Short Communications. For a
Short Communication, subdivisions into Materials and Methods, Results,
and Discussion sections may be omitted. Manuscripts in this category must
not exceed 15 double-spaced typed pages including references, tables,
figures (two figures would count as one typed page), and legends.
¡¡ Case Studies¡¡¡¡Case Studies must provide new information.
The text for Case Studies may be presented in the following sequences
: Abstract, Introduction, Case Report, Materials and Methods, Results
(or Pathological Findings) and Discussion.
¡¡ Letters to the Editor¡¡¡¡The Editor invites brief letters
commenting on recently published articles or short commentaries on topics
in hematology. Letters should ordinarily be no more than three double-spaced
pages, including references. Letters should have titles. The Editor reserves
the right to reject any letter or to make editorial changes.
¡¡ Abbreviations¡¡¡¡The following abbreviations should be used
: l, ml, ¦Ìl, kg, g, mg, ¦Ìg, ng, pg, m, cm, mm, ¦Ìm, nm, h, min, sec, msec,
M, mM, and ¡î. Other abbreviations should appear in parentheses immediately
after first mention and may be used alone thereafter in the text.
¡¡ Tables¡¡¡¡Tables should be used efficiently, and only when
the data cannot be presented clearly in the text. Each table should be
typed on a separate page with a suitable caption at the top and a legend
at the bottom. The caption and the legend should be written so that they
are comprehensible without reference to the text. In the text, refer to
every table, and number them in order of appearance. All non-standard
abbreviations should be explained in the footnotes. Footnotes should be
indicated by superscript lowercase letters. Use asterisks to indicate
the level of statistical significance. Vertical or horizontal rules between
entries should not be used.
¡¡ Figures¡¡¡¡Three complete sets of figures must be submitted.
Authors should bear in mind the dimensions of the journal (85 mm in width
for a single column and 175 mm in width for double columns). Original
figures should be no longer than 175¡ß220 mm in order to fit into the size
of the text columns.
¡¡ Photographs should be glossy and as high contrast as possible. Full-size
figures, properly laid out and in no need of reduction, are ideal. If
authors wish to have a group of photographs printed together in a single
block, one set of photographs may be mounted to show the preferred layout.
Scale bars must be included on all electron micrographs, with the scale
specified in the figure legend.
¡¡ Figure legends should be written on a separate page as concisely as
possible, and should be comprehensible without reference to the text.
All figures should be cited in the text and numbered in order of their
appearance. The number, the first author¡Çs name, and an indication of
the top should be written on the back of each illustration using a soft
pencil.
¡¡ When color illustrations are preferred, submit original color transparencies
as well as three sets of color prints. All costs involved in color reproduction
will be charged to authors.
¡¡ References¡¡¡¡References should be typed, double-spaced,
on a separate page and arranged in the order of citation in the text.
References cited only in tables or figures are numbered in the sequence
established by their first mention in the text of the table or in the
figure caption. Abbreviate titles of journals according to the Index Medicus.
Unpublished data and personal communications should be noted parenthetically
in the text. Include all authors¡Ç names. Reference numbers in the text
should be enclosed in parentheses.
